Guarding the Heart From Idolatry

Guarding the Heart From Idolatry

Scripture
Exodus 20:3
"You shall have no other gods before Me."

Reflection

Idolatry is not always obvious. In modern life, idols can look like success, approval, money, control, or even busyness.

Anything that takes the place of God in our hearts can slowly become an idol.

But God is not asking for perfection—He is asking for our devotion.

When we surrender the things we cling to and return them to Him, our hearts become free again. We begin to trust Him more deeply and walk in peace.

God desires to be first in our lives not because He demands control, but because He loves us and knows that everything we truly need flows from Him.

Prayer

Father,

Search my heart and reveal anything that has taken Your place in my life.

If I have depended on anything more than I depend on You, I surrender it now.

You alone are my source, my provider, and my strength.

Help me keep my heart centered on You above everything else.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Journal Prompt
